Noticeboard

Our Bible Studies led by Rev Eddie Sykes continue with eight studies that will cover the Book of Hebrews. While the studies form a sequence, you can dip in and out of the group, and can always catch up by reading the notes that are linked to each study.

Sessions are on Zoom on Thursday mornings at 10:30am, and last for just over an hour. If you don’t have the meeting details, or are new to the study group, please email Eddie at minister@rosythmethodist.org.uk for an access code.

Everyone is warmly welcome to join with us – no previous Bible study experience is necessary – just bring a Bible, and perhaps a cup of coffee, and enjoy the conversation!

Our topics will be:

  • 27 May: Jesus Christ is Greater than all God’s Messengers and Servants (Hebrews 1:1–2:4) (notes at this link)
  • 10 June: Jesus Christ is Greater than Faith’s Founders (Hebrews 3:1–4:13) (notes at this link)
  • 1 July: Jesus Christ is Greater than the Highest Religious Leaders (Hebrews 4:14–7:28) (notes at this link)
  • 15 July: Jesus Christ Provides a More Excellent Ministry (Hebrews 8) (notes at this link)
  • 29 July: God Provides the Better Covenant and the Better Promises (Hebrews 9:1–10:18) (notes at this link)

August break

  • 9 September: The Practical Consequences of Jesus’ Superiority (Hebrews 10:19–11:40) (notes at this link)
  • 23 September: Concluding Advice: Continue to Run the Race with Determination (Hebrews 12:1–13:17) (notes at this link)
  • 7 October: Final Greetings and Conclusion (Hebrews 13:18–25) (notes at this link)

Before each session Eddie will email you a reminder of the joining instructions and some study material. The study material will also be linked to this post.

From 1 June 2021, several churches will begin ‘in person’ worship in their church building. This has brought with it challenges regarding the preaching plan, especially as at the moment there are fewer available preachers than there are services requiring preachers.

To help ease these challenges, for the June-August 2021 quarter, the 9:45am Zoom worship service – amazingly these have been ‘on air’ every Sunday since the beginning of August 2020! – will now take place on a fortnightly basis, so only on the following dates:

6 June; 20 June
4 July; 18 July
1 August; 15 August; 29 August

However, every Sunday, a church somewhere in the Circuit will be live-streaming a service. Those on our circulation lists will receive information before the end of May, or you can email Eddie at minister@rosythmethodist.org.uk for joining details next week.

Eddie Sykes continues his message: “As we continue to emerge out of lockdown, we are aware that there are still more challenges to come – your understanding, patience and prayers are valued as we navigate this new journey we are on. All good wishes and please stay safe.”

From our You will be my witnesses post you will already know that the next Zoom Bible study will be at 10.30am on Ascension Day, Thursday 13 May, when we will look at Acts 1.1–26. As before, the session will last for 70–75 minutes.

Zoom log in details will be the same as for previous Bible studies. If have missed or mislaid these, please email Eddie at minister@rosythmethodist.org.uk for an access code.

Future Bible studies (all on Zoom) are being planned for the following Thursdays at 10.30am: 27 May, 10 June, 1 July, 15 July and 29 July. [Note that, while this is mostly fortnightly, there is a discontinuity in June!] Details of topics will be announced later.

This Ascension Day (13 May) there are two opportunities to join together as a Local Ecumenical Partnership:

  • at 10.30am with a Zoom Bible Study on Acts 1.1–26 led by Rev Eddie Sykes
  • at 6.00pm with a service-in-person in our church, where the preacher and celebrant will be Rev Dr Michael Paterson
