Noticeboard

The arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine has brought with it new hope, but also new scams from criminals looking for ways to profit off the pandemic. Sometimes it is hard to identify, as many scams look real and very convincing. This is one that’s going the rounds. If you see a text like this, just delete it.

The link isn’t harmful in itself, but clicking it leads to this page, which looks extremely convincing, and asks for personal identification:

Don’t be a sucker! Remember that:

  1. The vaccine is offered for free, so NHS will never ask for your bank details or payment in order to offer you a vaccine.
  2. At this stage, NHS is offering vaccine to the three priority groups identified (residents in a care home for older adults and their carers, people aged 80 and over, and frontline health and social care workers). If you do not fall into one of these groups, and someone offers you an early access to the vaccine, it is likely to be a scam. More information about the vaccination schedule can be found from the NHS Inform website.

In response to today’s updated restrictions from the Scottish Government, there will be no further meetings on our premises until at least the end of January. However, we will continue to worship on-line – details are on the website – and we are still there to help, and available by phone and email – details on our How to contact us page.

To set you on track for 2021, you’re invited to take part in “Exploring faith”, a short introduction and refresher course on what Christians believe.

This course is for everyone who wishes to be refreshed, or is exploring becoming a member of a local church, and is being delivered on Zoom by the Forth Valley Methodist Circuit ministry team.

Four Sundays, 10 January to 7 February, at 4.00pm.

For more details and to sign up to the course, please email the Circuit office.

As well as the Circuit carols by zoom at 4:00pm on Sunday 20 December and our Christmas Morning Service at 9.45am (click the links for details), there two services on Christmas Eve:

Christingle Service at 4:00pm (link via the City of Edinburgh Methodist Church YouTube Channel)

‘Watchnight’ Service at 11.30pm (via Zoom – please contact Mary Patterson for Zoom connection details)

For those of you who are unable to log onto Zoom, you may wish to download a special Christmas service, prepared by the Connexion, with a message from the President of Methodist Conference, which you can listen to at a time that suits your schedule.

Everyone is welcome to our virtual carol service on Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm for a time of celebration. Whilst “sweet singing in the choir” is beyond our technology, there will be a chance for you to join in some favourite carols and Christmas hymns in the privacy of your own home, and to hear the story that is at the same time both familiar and ever-new.

The joining details for this service are the same as for regular 9:45am Sunday morning services, but don’t let lack of the codes put you off sharing with us – just send an email to Eddie Sykes if you need these.
